Dental Emergencies and Extractions
Dental emergencies almost never happen at a convenient time. You might feel anxiety over when you will be able to get an appointment and start to feel better, especially if you are experiencing pain. At Essenmacher Dental, we do our best to accommodate dental emergencies on the same day.
Common Dental Emergencies
When patients come to us with a dental emergency, it is often because or a broken or damaged tooth, a lost restoration, or some type of pain.
Whether you bit into something hard and part of your tooth broke off, you lost a permanent crown or filling, or dental pain is keeping you from feeling comfortable, we encourage you to call right away. If you have a serious condition, treating it quickly can give us the best chance to save your tooth.
At your emergency exam, Dr. Essenmacher will focus on the problem so that we can treat it right away. We will take an x-ray of the affected area, perform a visual exam, and ask questions about the time leading up to the emergency.
Next, Dr. Essenmacher will provide the necessary treatment or palliative care so that you don’t have pain. We will schedule any follow up appointments necessary to complete your treatment. If you are a new patient, we will likely schedule a comprehensive exam with Dr. Essenmacher so that you can avoid dental emergencies in the future.
The best ways to avoid dental emergencies include:
- Twice daily brushing
- At least once daily flossing
- Maintaining regular dental appointments
- Staying current with x-rays
- Not using your teeth as tools
- Wearing a nightguard or mouthguard, if recommended
We never want you to feel pain and will work with you to create a preventive dentistry schedule that can help you look and feel your best.
Oral Surgery – Dental Extractions
While we do our best to avoid dental extractions, sometimes they become necessary when your tooth is too damaged, decayed, or fractured for us to save it. In most cases, except impacted third molars (wisdom teeth), Dr. Lindsay Essenmacher can perform extractions right in our Albuquerque, NM dental office.
Dr. Essenmacher has a gentle touch with each patient she treats. By treating our patients gently and compassionately, she provides a level of patient care that puts even the most anxious patients at ease.
When we remove a troubled tooth, we will always discuss all of your treatment options if tooth replacement is necessary. From dental bridges to dental implants, we can make sure you have a smile that makes you proud.
