Benefits of Dental Implants
Dentists tend to agree that for patients who qualify, dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth. Not only do they preserve your smile, but they also have added health benefits:
Preventing bone loss – When you lose a tooth, the bone that supported it begins to deteriorate in a process called resorption. Your roots and jawbone have a dependent relationship that stimulates bone regeneration. When tooth loss disrupts that relationship, bone loss can occur. This leads to problems with your bite and may cause additional bone loss.
Placeholder – Your dental implant fills the gap in your smile and will keep the adjacent teeth from tilting toward the gap left by your missing tooth. It will also keep the opposing teeth from super-eruption (coming too far out of the gums).
Dental Implant Placement
Dental implants consist of a titanium metal screw and a crown. The crown is the only part that will be visible once your treatment is complete. Making dental implants successful requires teamwork. We work closely with trusted oral surgeons in our area to ensure proper dental implant placement. Placement of your dental implant is essential to its success and longevity.
The oral surgeon will find the bone that is dense enough to provide your implant with stability while avoiding biological structures such as your sinuses. If you do not have sufficient bone, the oral surgeon can discuss bone grafting with you.
Once complete, your dental implant will need time to heal. This process usually takes several months.
