Gum disease or periodontal disease is a severe infection of the tissues surrounding your teeth, including your gums and ligaments. Gum disease treatment in Northeast Heights, NM is designed to halt the progress of this disease, save your smile, and protect your overall wellness.

Our dentist in Albuquerque, NM takes gum disease very seriously, but she wants patients to know that gum disease does not have to mean tooth loss. With a compassionate Northeast Heights, NM dentist on your side, there is still plenty to smile about.

The Signs and Implications of Gum Disease

Gum disease may not have many symptoms in the early gingivitis stage, which is why it’s important to visit your Albuquerque, NM dentist regularly for dental exams and teeth cleanings. If your dentist or hygienist spots gum disease in the gingivitis stage, the condition is reversible.

If you have advanced gingivitis or gum disease, you may notice some of the following symptoms:

  • Bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth
  • Periodic toothaches or sensitivity
  • Receding gums
  • Bleeding gums, especially when brushing or flossing

What You Can Do

The best course is to visit your Albuquerque, NM dentist for gum disease treatments that may include deep cleanings and a regular teeth cleaning schedule—including below the gum line.

Your dentist may also prescribe a custom oral care plan for you to implement at home. It’s crucial to adhere to any prescribed treatment.

Treating gum disease is crucial to your oral and systemic health because it can lead to significant health problems, including

  • Tooth loss
  • Systemic infections
  • Heart problems
  • Diabetes complications
  • Painful gums

Dear valued patients,

As many of you know, in response to the recommendations from the American Dental Association and public health orders in place in New Mexico, we have been seeing patients on an urgent/emergency basis only since March 17. As a practice, our first priority is to put the health and safety of our team and community first.

Because the exact trajectory of this pandemic cannot be anticipated, we are unable to accurately predict when we’ll be able to resume seeing patients for regular dental care.  At this time, public health orders prohibiting elective dental care extend until May 15.  However, we will definitely make an announcement on our website and Facebook when normal hours are resumed. We will also be contacting patients whose appointments were canceled so that we can reschedule.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about an upcoming appointment, or have a concern about your teeth that you’d like to discuss, please do not hesitate to call our office.  We are happy to assist you in any way we can.

While we all watch and wait to see what the coming weeks hold for our nation, I pray for health and peace for all of you and those you love.  I know that together, we will get through this. Take care and God bless. Visit our Facebook page for a message from Dr. Essenmacher.

Best Regards,

Dr. Essenmacher
