Many people believe they’ll outgrow cavities, or that they are reserved for children; this is not always the case. If you’re suffering from adult cavities, our Northeast Heights, NM dentist wants to help you.

There are several reasons why adults get cavities. The good news is that there are preventive steps you can take to lower your risk for adult cavities

What Are Dental Cavities?

Cavities are another way of saying dental caries, or tooth decay. A cavity requires time in the dental chair, drilling, and closure—generally with composite resin material colored to match your teeth.

Lowering Your Adult Cavity Risk

Our Northeast Heights, NM dentist provides preventive dental care and oral hygiene tips to help you reduce your risk for adult cavities.

The American Dental Association recommends brushing and flossing at least twice per day and visiting your dental office twice per year for exams and professional teeth cleanings. At Essenmacher Family Dental, we agree with these recommendations and find that patients who adhere have fewer cavities.

Regular dental exams help our dentist spot potential areas on your teeth that are at-risk for adult cavities. Additionally, twice-yearly dental cleanings clear away the stubborn bacteria that lead to cavities.

If you’re particularly prone to cavities, our top Northeast Heights dentist provides fluoride treatments and dental sealants to help strengthen teeth and shield your enamel from bacteria and tartar.

If you grind and clench your teeth—often while sleeping—we may also recommend a custom nightguard. Tooth erosion brought on by grinding and clenching often leads to adult cavities.

Don’t let adult cavities get you down. At Essenmacher Family Dental, our team is here to help.

Dear valued patients,

As many of you know, in response to the recommendations from the American Dental Association and public health orders in place in New Mexico, we have been seeing patients on an urgent/emergency basis only since March 17. As a practice, our first priority is to put the health and safety of our team and community first.

Because the exact trajectory of this pandemic cannot be anticipated, we are unable to accurately predict when we’ll be able to resume seeing patients for regular dental care.  At this time, public health orders prohibiting elective dental care extend until May 15.  However, we will definitely make an announcement on our website and Facebook when normal hours are resumed. We will also be contacting patients whose appointments were canceled so that we can reschedule.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about an upcoming appointment, or have a concern about your teeth that you’d like to discuss, please do not hesitate to call our office.  We are happy to assist you in any way we can.

While we all watch and wait to see what the coming weeks hold for our nation, I pray for health and peace for all of you and those you love.  I know that together, we will get through this. Take care and God bless. Visit our Facebook page for a message from Dr. Essenmacher.

Best Regards,

Dr. Essenmacher
