Prevention is the foundation for excellent oral health, but prevention should be a partnership between you and your Northeast Heights, NM dentist. In other words, the best course is a great oral hygiene routine at home and regular dental visits to keep your smile healthy at every age.

At Essenmacher Family Dental, our Northeast Heights, NM dentist treats patients of all ages, including children and senior citizens.

Healthy Smiles for Children with Your Northeast Heights, NM Dentist

Children may overindulge in sweets or brush haphazardly. As a rule, it is good to limit acidic and sweet snacks and beverages. You should also supervise your child’s brushing habits until you are confident they have the routine down and are brushing effectively.

If your child is prone to cavities, it is also important to see the dentist who may recommend dental sealants or fluoride treatments to help strengthen teeth against decay and future oral health issues.

Adults of All Ages Should Enjoy a Comfortable Smile

As you age, your risk for gum disease increases. Gum disease is a serious infection of the tissues that support your teeth. Left untreated, gum disease can compromise your overall health and promote tooth loss.

Regular dental exams help your Northeast Heights, NM dentist spot the early signs (gingivitis) before you develop gum disease.

Your dentist in Albuquerque is also on the lookout for oral cancer and closely monitors any oral changes.

Best Practices on Two Fronts

No matter your age, brushing and flossing regularly is a great starting point. When you combine these practices with regular dental visits, you are on the right course for healthy teeth and gums for life.

Dear valued patients,

As many of you know, in response to the recommendations from the American Dental Association and public health orders in place in New Mexico, we have been seeing patients on an urgent/emergency basis only since March 17. As a practice, our first priority is to put the health and safety of our team and community first.

Because the exact trajectory of this pandemic cannot be anticipated, we are unable to accurately predict when we’ll be able to resume seeing patients for regular dental care.  At this time, public health orders prohibiting elective dental care extend until May 15.  However, we will definitely make an announcement on our website and Facebook when normal hours are resumed. We will also be contacting patients whose appointments were canceled so that we can reschedule.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about an upcoming appointment, or have a concern about your teeth that you’d like to discuss, please do not hesitate to call our office.  We are happy to assist you in any way we can.

While we all watch and wait to see what the coming weeks hold for our nation, I pray for health and peace for all of you and those you love.  I know that together, we will get through this. Take care and God bless. Visit our Facebook page for a message from Dr. Essenmacher.

Best Regards,

Dr. Essenmacher
