What is internal bleaching?
Internal bleaching is a painless method of whitening that is typically used on a front tooth that has become discolored, usually following root canal treatment or trauma. To improve the color of the tooth, Dr. Essenmacher places a bleaching agent inside the tooth and then covers it with a temporary filling. The gel is left in the tooth for a few days, and then the shade is checked to see if the tooth has returned to the proper shade. If so, the temporary filling and bleaching agent are removed and replaced with a permanent filling. If either the patient or the Doctor isn't happy with the shade, another round of bleaching would be completed. To see examples of internal bleaching, check out our Smile Gallery! If you have a discolored tooth that you are interested in having evaluated for internal bleaching, give our office a call. We would be happy to see you for a complimentary consultation.
