Crowns Can Be Needed for Many Reasons
There are a few different reasons that a person could need a crown on their tooth. The most common reason is that the tooth has a cavity and/or existing filling that is so large that the tooth is prone to breaking without a protective cap. Another reason that a tooth may need a crown is that the tooth has a crack in it. A crack can be caused by trauma to the tooth, such as getting hit by something or biting down on something very hard. Other times, a tooth becomes cracked when a person has bite issues or a grinding or clenching habit. A crown is needed on these teeth to hold the tooth structure together and prevent it from cracking any further.
